What is Cataracts?

The human eye is similar to a camera. Your eye contains clear lens made mostly of water and protein arranged to let light through. And like a camera, when the lens of the eye is cloudy, some light becomes blocked. When a human eye lens becomes cloudy it is called a cataract. Cataracts cause a gradual, painless loss of vision.

Cataracts Symptoms

Patients with cataracts can experience symptoms such as faded color vision, issues with light (such as halos, or headlights that seem too bright), trouble seeing at night, double vision, etc.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Cataracts

The optometry group at Eye Associates is able to determine the presence of cataracts through a comprehensive eye exam - which includes a visual clarity test and dilation of the pupils. Treatment includes new eye glasses or contact to return optimal vision or if the condition worsens enough whereby eyeglasses will no longer give the patient the quality of vision that they require, surgery can be an option.
